Plain Clothes Week

June 1 @ 8:00 am - June 6 @ 5:00 pm AEST

Krav Maga Plain Clothes Week: Real-World Self-Defence Training

From Monday, 1 June to Saturday, 6 June, all scheduled adult classes will run as part of Plain Clothes Week. This dedicated training block moves away from standard gym attire to prepare you for real-world self-defence by simulating actual attacks in your everyday clothes. Training in your usual wardrobe reveals how restrictive clothing, footwear, pockets, and daily accessories significantly affect your mobility, speed, and defensive responses under high stress.

Why Train in Everyday Clothes?

Mobility Restrictions: Training in tight jeans, heavy jackets, or structured work attire reveals the true limits of your movement. You will quickly learn how to adapt your strikes, kicks, and defences when you cannot lift your legs or extend your arms as freely as you do in flexible gym shorts.

Defending Clothing Grabs: In a real confrontation, attackers will violently grab loose t-shirts, jackets, and hoodies. Plain clothes training teaches you the specific mechanics required to defend yourself and escape when your own garments are being used against you.

Stress Realism: By training in the exact gear you wear on the street, your brain bridges the gap between the gym and reality. This builds more effective, reliable muscle memory that triggers naturally during an actual confrontation.

What to Wear and Bring

We encourage you to rotate through your usual everyday gear, such as casual jeans, sweaters, and hoodies. If you work in a corporate environment, practising in a button-down shirt or blazer is highly beneficial for understanding how tailored clothing restricts your upper-body movement.

For footwear, swap out your bare feet or flat mat shoes for the shoes you typically wear outside, such as sneakers or flat-soled shoes (no heels, please). This allows you to realistically practice your footwork, balance, and stepping on hard surfaces. Finally, consider layering your outfits; practising in jackets with hoods—which can be pulled over your head in a surprise attack—or coats with large pockets helps you navigate obstacles that might get caught during a fight.
